Security bodies have arrested 16 people at Naqra district, Samalout City, in the aftermath of new clashes between the police and citizens two days ago.
The clashes broke out when the security tried to arrest four defendants in the incidents in which a police officer killed a pregnant woman last October 8 while inspecting her house.
Lawyer Ali Ahmed Shafiq branded the way the security forces arrest citizens as ‘random’. He confirmed that the security arrested people who had nothing to do with the incidents. It used violence and tear gas.
Samalout Prosecution accused the arrested of gathering, fighting the authorities, breaking out fires, using gas cylinders, blocking the Cairo-Aswan highway, damaging a police car and stealing its components, helping a defendant to escape and injuring two police men.
The defendants denied the accusations and some of them said they were not in the city when the clashes broke out.
